The children have been exploring different materials and how they react once placed on water. The cotton wool was probably the biggest surprise; most children thought this would float but soon discovered that it drinks the water and this makes it heavy. Lots of new language explored and learning about how to undertake a science experiment. This learning has been used as a Key Assessment Task, so you will see these soon once they are sent home.
Please could we get these back from everyone as soon as possible? (There are a lot of families waiting to hear if they can have a third ticket for Tuesday night!)
We look forward to seeing you all at parents evening over the next few days. The Scholastic Book Fair will be on display in the hall and you may order books then if you wish. Please send correct money in an envelope labelled with your child’s name and class by Friday. Alternatively, your child can […]
We have started rehearsing for our whole school performance of ‘Pirates of the Curry Bean’.
P2/3 are involved in three songs, with ‘Anchors Away’ being our main number. The lyrics for these songs have now been given home and any additional practice your child can manage at home will really support them to learn the words and sing confidently.
There are videos on You Tube with the backing music and other children singing the melody which could support your child at home.
Please have a look at the school newsletter for information on the costumes required for each class. We would be very grateful if these could be sent into school as soon as you can.
Thank you and I look forward to seeing many of you at the parent meeting next week.
We had a rather wet but enjoyable walk to play a Snowman beetle drive with some of the care centre’s service users today. The children were fantastic at taking turns and involving everyone as they played.
Here’s some pictures from last week of us recording which birds we saw in our school playground as part of the Big School Birdhunt by RSPB.
Following on from our work last week, P2/3 worked with Mrs Laird today and heard about a child called Reema, from Syria who was not getting various rights met. The class showed super recall of what they had learnt from last week and were able to say lots of reasons as to why Reema wasn’t getting her rights. They also learnt some facts about Syria.
Here’s the beginning stages of our Stone Age Cave! We will be adding to this as we learn more about how people lived then. If you have any ideas you’d like to share, please get in touch.
I hope you are enjoying looking at the latest Key Assessment Task. The children did so well and can now all have a short conversation in French. I would be grateful if the tasks could be sent back to school by Tuesday 11th February. Thank you.
Spelling words next week (w/c 10th Feb) will focus on the long i sound again, but this time looking at alternative spellings. The words are: light, sight, high, kind, mind, find.
Finally, we’ve been working on Fractions this last week, understanding that a fraction must be an equal part of something and we have began to explore why they are written with a number over another number. These concepts could be supported at home, whilst preparing food, sharing out items and noticing other examples around your home or garden.
Please remember that you can share anything with me via the red books. Alternatively contact the school office.
We are really excited for World Book Day on Thursday 5th March. We will be celebrating the day with fancy dress, a competition, class buddying activities and other literacy related work within classes. Optional Fancy Dress Our fancy dress theme is simple this year – come dressed as your favourite book or film character. Click on the link below for more information.
P2/3 worked with Mrs Laird to continue to develop their understanding of Children’s Rights today. We thought about what rights mean and which we knew already and also, ones that we felt we should have e.g. the right to have a birthday party! We had a very interesting discussion around which rights were most important before learning that the Rights of the Child are all equal in importance. We then heard the story ‘I have the right to be a child’ by Alain Serres.
We usually do our spelling test on a Friday, however we took the time today to share learning with P4/5 about Robbie Burns instead. Miss Walker successfully read ‘The Ballad of Janitor Mackay’ and the children enjoyed listening and discussing some of the Scots words. These are the spelling words we will review on Monday, so any practice you can achieve over the weekend will be super for the children ‘s memory! We have looked at ‘y’ saying ‘ee’ this week. The words are:
Happy, scary, lazy, funny, lady, baby and keys. Remember we can also try to shrink or grow these words for extra challenge!
